Samsung SDI akuisisi bisnis baterai Magna International


Samsung SDI, anak perusahaan solusi energi dan material elektronik milik Samsung Group, hari ini mengumumkan bahwa mereka telah setuju untuk mengakuisisi bisnis baterai dari Magna International, pemasok otomotif global terkemuka.

Akuisisi ini diharapkan dapat meningkatkan kemampuan Samsung SDI di baterai untuk kendaraan listrik dengan menggabungkan kepemimpinan perusahaan dalam sel dan modul baterai dengan keahlian Magna di pengemasan baterai.

Teknologi canggih Magna dan pengalaman dalam memberikan kemasan baterai untuk industri mobil global juga akan membantu mengamankan konsumen Samsung SDI di pasar baterai otomotif yang berkembang pesat di Eropa, Amerika Utara dan China.

"Akuisisi ini merupakan langkah strategis bagi Samsung SDI untuk memperkuat daya saing bisnis baterai otomotif kami," kata Namseong Cho, Presiden dan CEO Samsung SDI. "Ini akan memberikan momentum baru untuk memperluas bisnis kami dan basis konsumen."

Berdasarkan perjanjian tersebut, Samsung SDI akan mengakuisisi seluruh bisnis baterai dari Magna Steyr, unit operasi Magna International yang berbasis di Austria, termasuk semua 264 karyawan, lokasi produksi dan pengembangan dan kontrak bisnis yang ada.

Nilai keuangan dari kesepakatan ini tidak akan diungkapkan. Transaksi ini diharapkan akan selesai pada paruh pertama 2015, untuk menunggu persetujuan regulator.


Pasar global untuk mobil listrik, termasuk model hybrid dan plug-in hybrid, menurut firma riset B3 dan IHS, diperkirakan akan mencapai 7,7 juta unit kendaraan pada tahun 2020, dibandingkan dengan 2,1 juta pada tahun 2014.

SEOUL, Korea – February 23, 2015 - Samsung SDI Co. Ltd., a global leader in energy solutions and electronic materials, has agreed to acquire the battery pack business of Magna International, a leading global automotive supplier.

The acquisition is expected to enhance Samsung SDI’s capabilities in batteries for electric vehicles by combining the company’s established leadership in battery cells and modules with Magna's expertise in battery packs.

Magna’s advanced technology and experience in providing global automakers with battery packs will also help Samsung SDI secure customers in the fast-growing automotive battery markets in Europe, North America and China.

"The acquisition is a key strategic step for Samsung SDI to strengthen the competitiveness of our automotive battery business,” said Namseong Cho, President and CEO of Samsung SDI. "It will provide new momentum to expand our business and customer base.”

Under the agreement, Samsung SDI will acquire the entire battery pack business from Magna Steyr, an Austria-based operating unit of Magna International, including all 264 employees, production and development sites and existing contracts of the business.

Financial terms of the deal will not be disclosed. The transaction is expected to be completed during the first half of 2015, pending regulatory approvals.

The global market for electric vehicles, including hybrid and plug-in hybrid models, is forecast to reach 7.7 million vehicles by 2020, compared with 2.1 million in 2014, according to research firms B3 and IHS.
